Purpose Statement
The job of ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL/SR HIGH is done for the purpose/s of The job of ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL/SR HIGH is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by directing assigned programs and services; providing information and serving as a resource to others; supervising and evaluating assigned staff; coordinating school activities; participating in school safety program; and, addressing issues and/or situations arising on campus or with enrolled students
Essential Functions
Chairs, leads, and/or coordinates committees (e.g. curriculum, safety, site advisory, special district committees, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring outcomes achieve school, district and/or state objectives.
Communicates with parents on behalf of school (e.g. student attendance, discipline infractions, homework issues, available programs/services, completing paperwork, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring an ongoing partnership between the home and school is formed and maintained.
Facilitates communication between personnel, students, and/or parents for the purpose of monitoring student progress and facilitating communication with staff and parents, identifying and evaluating situations, and resolving issues and/or conflicts.
Facilitates the development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of quality learning for the purpose of enhancing excellence, equality, and equity for staff and students.
Implements policies, procedures and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.
Manages a variety of school administrative functions, as assigned, (e.g. student disciplinary policies and procedures, school schedule, truancy management, payroll review, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school, district, and state policies and maintaining the safety and efficiency of school operations.
Manages student volunteer work program for the purpose of establishing community contacts and generating opportunities for students to learn on-the-job skills for future entry into the workforce.
Monitors and maintains building and school safety protocols, practices, and procedures for the purpose of ensuring preparedness and appropriate response to alerts and alarms.
Monitors school store inventory, if applicable, for the purpose of initiating purchasing process and maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
Participates in, or leads, meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g. professional development, Individualized Education Program (IEP)/General Education Intervention (GEI) meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
Participates in, or monitors, end-of-year activities/processes (e.g. book inventory, building inventory, student files/grade/school transfers, etc.) for the purpose of supporting and ensuring the efficient completion of required end-of-year processes and preparations for the coming school year.
Prepares a variety of materials (e.g. reports, student activities, correspondence, audits, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
Represents the school within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support/fundraising for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to school environment. ●
Supervises and evaluates assigned school personnel for the purpose of providing guidance, monitoring performance, providing for professional growth, ensuring standards are achieved and performance is maximized, and achieving overall objectives of school's curriculum.
Supports the principal by providing assistance with administrative functions for the purpose of interviewing/hiring staff, monitoring/managing school safety, and ensuring continuity of services in the absence of the principal.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; conflict resolution; bookkeeping principles; grammar, spelling and punctuation; knowledge of community resources; concepts and practices of personnel administration; and, school safety and security practices.
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: planning and managing projects; using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; administering personnel policies; analyzing budgets; applying curriculum and instructional techniques; classifying data and/or information; conducting interviews; conducting meetings; counseling and mentoring employees; utilizing critical observation; enforcing discipline policies; enforcing rules and regulations; and, investigating issues.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working as part of a team; working with frequent interruptions; creating and maintaining effective work relationships; maintaining a positive school climate for students, staff, and community; motivating staff; adapting to changing work priorities; meeting deadlines and schedules; and, working simultaneously on multiple issues or projects.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; managing a department; supervising the use of funds. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 12% sitting, 28% walking, 60% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required. Education: Masters degree in job related area with an emphasis in in job-related area.
