English Learner (EL) Paraprofessional (Elementary)-Bilingual
Reports To: Building Principal, EL Teacher, General Director of Cultural Innovation
Position Purpose: Bilingual paraprofessionals are members of the classroom instructional team who provide assistance and support to English language learners. Under the supervision of an administrator and the direction of certified staff, bilingual paraprofessionals assist the teacher in the education of students including instructional assistance, organization, record keeping, management of student behavior, and classroom safety. Communication with students, support staff, parents, and other family members are an important part of this job.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
48 hours of college credit or pass the State-Approved Assessment
Fluency in Spanish and English. Able to read and write in both languages.
Skills in the use of computers
Good organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to work with minimal supervision
Fundamental understanding of students who are English language learners (ELL), experience working with ELLs is preferred
Conscientiously accept and follow directions
Ability to keep sensitive information confidential
Ability to lift
In good health
Adaptable to a variety of situations
Physical/Emotional requirements:
Speaking, hearing, seeing, and manual dexterity
Coordination of eye/hand for such activities as keyboarding, calculation, word processing,.
Bending/stooping, sitting, lifting up to 50 lbs.
Responsibilities:
Assist teachers with daily instruction
Assist students in achieving their individual objectives
Act as interpreter for Spanish speaking families
Work differentiated hours twice a year during parent-teacher conferences
Direct activities designed to reinforce concepts for individuals or small groups
Work with teachers to modify activities to meet student’s needs
Perform informal assessment activities
Assist teachers in collecting data and maintaining records regarding student performance
Monitor classroom when teacher is otherwise occupied
Clerical functions
Assist in the maintenance of learning centers and instructional materials
